Teresa A. Leahy Teresa Leahy Training www.teresaleahytraining.com
As an amateur she successfully competed in the Amateur-Owner Jumpers (Level 7), the USET Equitation Class and Preliminary Level Eventing. Ms. Leahy also trained for more than seven years with Gwen Blake, a USET National Team member with over twenty years of International competitive Dressage experience. Teresa has ridden in multiple clinics with Eric Horgan, Anne Gribbons, Lendon Gray, Michael Page and Gregg Best. Furthermore, by attaining the "A" rating in the USPC, Ms. Leahy has demonstrated a thorough knowledge of equine husbandry and training.
Ms. Leahy's students have competed successfully on the "B" and "A" rated show circuits and have earned numerous Grand Championship awards. She has trained riders and horses alike to both the Zone II Hunter Finals, Region VIII Dressage Championships and the National Marshall & Sterling Finals. Several of her students have received Long Island High Score Awards, including the 2004 Children's Hunter Horse Championship, LIHSAA Jumper Reserve Champion and reserve Champion in the Pre-Children's Hunter Division. In addition, her students have won Grand Champion awards at the Winner's Circle and Hunter's Isle series and she earned the trainer Award for 2004.
Greater harmony between horse and rider is Ms. Leahy's primary training goal. Specific areas of emphasis include balance of the seat, coordination and communication of the aids and attention to the horse's needs. By helping riders grow more competent, Ms. Leahy seeks to enhance each student's confidence and sense of fulfillment from equestrian pursuits. She also strives to improve each horse's performance by developing its athletic potential and increasing its reception of the aids. Improved balance, suppleness and submission allow the horse to become more responsive and its gaits and jumping style more expressive.
Ms. Leahy enjoys training riders and horses of all ages and ability levels. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and there is nothing she likes better that to share her passion with students.

I have started and worked with many breeds including TB, Warm-bloods, Arabs and Drafts. I have successfully shown Appaloosas, Quarter Horses and Morgans on a National level. My training disciplines include Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Hunt Seat, Reining, Trail, lower level Dressage and Jumping. I instruct students of all ages, from beginning levels just for pleasure riding to the more experienced equitation rider wanting to improve and excel in the show arena. My students learn to work with their horse as a team, with unity. I emphasize basic dressage movements so that you learn not only proper balance and equitation but how to communicate with your horse in a positive and constructive way. I teach riders to reach their goals. I am currently accepting partial or full time horses in training. I am also accepting new students. I am available for consultation on equine sales and purchases. |
